The pretty market town of Woodstock
will play host to Art in Woodstock, a
major visual arts festival from 23rd- 28th October 2007. Showcasing work by visiting professional
artists and local talent, this brand new initiative from Wake
up to Woodstock will see the
whole of Woodstock
transformed into a celebration of visual arts.
Entries
are being sought for the competitions for which the deadline for entry is
14th September. The winners’ work – in the art, photography and
schools competitions – will be exhibited in the town during the event and Rosita
Spencer-Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough will present the prizes to the
competition winners together with Peter Wileman, Vice President of the Royal
Institute of Oil Painters at an awards ceremony on Saturday 27th
October 2007.
Samsung
Photographic Competition ‘Inspired by Woodstock’, with fantastic prizes kindly
donated by Samsung: the first prize will be a state-of-the art digital camera
worth £700.00. Judges are Suzie Medley, Fotonet South and Charlie Waite, Light
and Land. The Open Art Competition, ‘Inspired by Woodstock’, will be judged by Professor Martin Kemp,
Professor of Art History at Oxford University. The first prize is kindly
sponsored by Senecio Press, Charlbury.
Many of the
retailers will be taking part in Art in
Woodstock, with individual art exhibitions in their shops and
restaurants, and a triangular art wall will be erected in the town square for
visitors to contribute to, creating a unique work of art reflecting Woodstock
and its community; there will be exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations as well
as talks by eminent artists, critics and authorities in their
field.
